How many anglers can I have on my team?

This is a boat/team event. Each team participating is allowed six (9) team members (that includes, owner, captain, mate, anglers, and videographer) to fish in the tournaments. Captain substitutions must be approved by SPS and must be for cause, i.e. family emergency etc. As in most all other major professional sports, each team starts with a beginning roster, that roster must be finalized and turned in prior to the the Captains Meeting of the first tournament (Sailfish Cup). All substitutions must be approved by the SPS Rules Committee.

Can the captain also be an angler?

Yes. The captain does not need to fill out the angler portion of the entry form. Completion of the captain's section of the form will qualify him or her as an angler.

Do I have to have a boat?

No, but if you charter a boat, you have to fish the same boat and team throughout the series. Our goal is to build public awareness (through press releases, magazine and web) of your team and your sponsors.

Can I enter more than one boat?

Yes, you may enter more than one boat. A boat may be changed throughout the season from tournament to tournament at that team's discretion, but once a boat is entered into the tournament, it must be fished for the entire tournament. A boat may only be changed during a tournament as a result of mechanical breakdown and after approval is received from the SPS Rules Committee.

What if your boat is down? Can I use more than one boat under the same team name?

Yes, a boat may only be changed during a tournament as a result of mechanical breakdown and after approval is received from the SPS Rules Committee. You may NOT hire a charter boat to fish that tournament with the intentions of using him for local knowledge of the area. You may rent a local boat or borrow a friend's boat to complete that tournament. You may not make personal substitutions, all substitutions must be approved by the SPS rules committee.

What are the eligible species?

Sailfish ONLY

Is there a minimum size limit to the boat I am entering?

There is NO minimum size requirement for the boat you are entering.

How much should sponsors pay?

You want them to pay for as much as possible to offset your costs. We do not have a predetermined amount to charge "your" sponsors. Refer to page 10 in the Sailfish Pro Series packet. It is very similar to how NASCAR sponsorship works. We will help your team attain sponsors for a fee.

Do you expect boats to get "primary" sponsorship the first year?

Teams that can present a history of winning tournaments are more likely to have better success than teams that do not.

For more information on sponsorships, contact Christopher King at 727-450-1542.

How does the scoring system work?

Please review your SPS packet for scoring system breakdown.

Do I have to have video release footage?

Yes, please see the rules.
